Why They Are Needed
H.E. Dr. Donald Kaberuka is the 7th elected President of the African Development Bank Group. He took the oath of office on September 1, 2005 in a ceremony at the institution’s Temporary Relocation Agency in Tunis. As President of the Bank Group, H.E. Donald Kaberuka is chairing the Boards of the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund, the soft loan arm of the Group.
H.E. Dr. Donald Kaberuka was educated in Tanzania and the United Kingdom where he obtained his M Phil (Econ.) and a PhD in Economics from the Glasgow University in Scotland. He served as Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning since 1997, and has been widely acknowledged as the principal architect of the successful post-war reconstruction and economic reform programme. He initiated and implemented major economic and governance reforms in the fiscal, monetary, budgetary and structural domains including independence of the Central Banks. These reforms resulted in the widely acclaimed recovery of the Rwandan economy, sustained economic growth and enabled the country to benefit from debt cancellations under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (
HIPC) Initiative in April 2005. As minister for Finance and Economic Planning, H.E. Dr. Donald Kaberuka was the Governor for Rwanda at the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the African Development Bank.
H.E. Donald Kaberuka is fluent in English, French and Swahili.

H.E. Dr. Tarik Khalaf Al Abdullah is an eminent citizen of the Republic of Iraq who has an MSc degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Business Development. Dr. Abdullah has a profound experience in a variety of business activities and is the chairman of the famous Al Dahir Group that has a transnational presence in many countries. A polyglot who is fluent in Arabic, English and Romanian, Dr. Abdullah is actively involved in various social and development causes, and is the Sheikh of the Al Halabsa tribe in Iraq.
Dr. Abdullah would play a crucial role to actuate various IIMSAM’s initiatives across the globe that would eradicate malnutrition, achieve food security, and bridge the health divide through Spirulina. His endeavors would be the agency to counter various deprivations associated with malnutrition and in the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals especially in the Developing and the Least Developed Countries.

H.E. Dr. Marco Fantinel, IIMSAM’s Goodwill Ambassador from the Italian Republic, is the President of the Fantinel Group. Fantinel is the largest private winery of Friuli, in the north-east of Italy. The group’s activity also include catering with the Business School Chain of Restaurants “Pane Vino e San Daniele, a chain of national premises that are dedicated to promoting local flavours; the San Daniele ham production with the Testa&Molinaro; company, the oldest factory for the production of the best Italian Prosciutto. The group is also the leading shareholder of the historic soccer team of the region, U.S. Triestina Calcio, in which Dr. Fantinel is member of the Board.
Dr. Fantinel was educated in the United Kingdom, at the European School of London where he graduated in International Business Administration. He would be instrumental to spread awareness and build support for IIMSAM and its various initiatives in the Italian Republic and in the countries that have a presence of the Fantinel Group.
To realise a global partnership for development to eradicate malnutrition and to secure the achievement of the UN MDG’s, the Fantinel Group under the leadership of Dr. Fantinel has initiated “Celebrate Life Merlot”, a project that would contribute 1 US Dollar for each bottle of Merlot produced by Fantinel and sold all over the world towards the Spirulina initiatives of the IIMSAM.

H.E. Ms. Maria Wera Cedrell, IIMSAM’s Goodwill Ambassador is an eminent journalist from Sweden. With a distinguished career in journalism spanning over many decades, she is presently associated with the World Television Network Limited.
Ms. Cedrell has been actively involved in various humanitarian causes in the past such as the ”Bridges of Hope” and ”Say Yes for Children” for the Global Movement for Children that was initiated by Mr. Nelson Mandela and UNICEF among others. She has also authored many books on contemporary issues in the field of international politics.
Ms. Cedrell would play a significant role in the endeavours of the IIMSAM that aim to counter malnutrition globally through Spirulina and achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

H.E Carolina Herrera, Goodwill Ambassador and Facilitator for IIMSAM’s ‘The Right to Food Campaign Initiative Against Malnutrition’ was born in Caracas, Venezuela in the family of Venezuelan landowners and statesman. A renowned designer who celebrates and epitomizes the essence of woman in her creations and acclaimed works that find a tremendous appeal which transcend continents, Mrs. Herrera was awarded with the prestigious “Women’s-wear Designer of the Year” from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Most recently, H.E. Carolina Herrera launched a diffusion collection ‘CH Carolina Herrera’ in Europe.
With a keen esthetic sense that finds manifestation in her style that seeks simplicity in intricacy, H.E. Carolina Herrera would contribute with her faculties towards the complex issue of malnutrition and to find amiable solutions in the context of development deficit, gender divide, and natality equality. In particular, she wants to focus her energies to counter malnourishment in the womb that results either in infant or maternal mortality, or reduces future cognitive development of a child, with traditionally disempowered groups such as women and children bearing the disproportionate brunt of the ill.
H.E Carolina Herrera states, "If my work at the IIMSAM were to save the life of even one child from the forty thousand children that die of malnutrition and related diseases each day, I would consider it the greatest work of my life."
Her contributions would play a significant role to check the reproduction of poverty from one generation to the next that results because of malnutrition and must be tackled to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

H.E. Ms. Angélica María, IIMSAM’s Goodwill Ambassador, is popularly known as La Novia de México is a renowned actress and singer-songwriter from the Republic of Mexico. One of the most respected and beloved performer of Mexico, Ms. Maria is a widely respected milestone of the entertainment industry. She has also acted in various Hollywood movies.
Ms. Maria would play an instrumental role in various initiatives of the IIMSAM to realise a world free of hunger and malnutrition. She would use her sphere of influence to highlight the immense plight of the peoples of the world caused by malnutrition; and would raise various resources necessary to make Spirulina a key-driver to achieve global food security and bridge the health divide.

Mr. Tushar Gandhi (b.17th January 1960) is the great-grandson of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Mahatma. Tushar is a socio-political activist of peace issues, who also heads the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation.
In 2000, he was instrumental to initiate the “Mahatma of the World Wide Web project” with the help of the Non Resident Indians of the TIE group of USA, an association of Silicon Valley Billionaries of Indian origins. Tushar was also appointed to a sub committee of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti by the Prime Minister of India.
In 2001, Tushar was invited by the NGO “Peace Initiatives”, to join a group of journalists and social activists to visit the strife torn Kashmir, to interact with the leaders of the separatist “Hurriyat Conference”, the police and the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir with the aim to explore the possibility of achieving peace through development and economic programmes.
A noted Gandhian himself, he has been involved with the US based NGO “Seeds for Peace” which works with children from various strife torn regions of the world, at their camp in Maine.
In 2002, Tushar was invited to London by EMMA, a minorities cultural organization, to receive the Immortal Legends award on behalf of his great-grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi. In the autumn of 2002, Tushar was invited by the Lord Mayor of London to participate and speak at a seminar organized under the auspices of the Black History Month celebrated by the GLA. Tushar also spoke at the Inner Temple Society on “Human Rights post September 11: The Role of the Judiciaty”. Along with Ms. Yolanda King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King jr.; Ms. Zindzi Mandela, daughter of Nelson Mandela; Ms. Attallah Shahbazz, daughter of Malcom X; and Mr. Gamal Nkurmah, son of Kwame Nkurmah, Tushar was the main speaker at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Lecture at the Nehru Centre in London.
A member of the Indian National Congress, Tushar has been active in protesting against religious fundamentalism and fanaticism of any kind. The Mahatma Gandhi Foundation has helped in establishing peace through mutually dependent relationships between religious communities by partnering with local groups.
In 2005, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the famous Dandi March (Salt Satyagraha) undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930, in defiance of the Salt monopoly of the British rule, Tushar organized a walk for Peace, Justice and Freedom. The 241 miles (385.6 KM) long walk was completed along with over 600 marchers from India, Pakistan and all over the world.
In April 2005, the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation and Tushar were awarded the first Mahatma Mahaveer Award by the TIMES Foundation in recognition of his work in promoting the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Tushar strives to create one of India’s biggest electronic archive on the World Wide Web to help Bridge the digital divide that threatens to widen the economic and developmental gap between the “Have Too Much” and the “Have Nothing” segments of the Indian population; and to provide educational, healthcare and employment opportunities to the economically weaker and rural sections of India.
Besides doing a cameo as himself in the Bollywood flick ‘He’ Ram’ based on the life of the Mahatma, Tushar has also written a chapter for a book on the importance of Country Level Domain Names on the internet. He has long been crusading popularize the India specific Country Code Top Level Domain .in on the World Wide Web.
